Weaving the threads

At lunch with an agency founder last week, we talked about the random career paths we’d had.

We’d both spun various seemingly disconnected threads through our working lives. Three or four wildly different jobs.

While you’re in them, there doesn’t seem to be much connection between the separate threads.

Maybe you’re just a career-hopper, a generalist, bad at focusing.

But then you start to learn how to weave them together.

And that’s where the magic happens. Where you find what makes you unique.

You’ve woven them into being your superpower.

This seems to be typical with agency founders. We’re the kind of people who like to learn and experience new things, it seems. We build up a disparate range of knowledge. And suddenly something helps us to make that little twist of perspective in our head to see how it all comes together.
