Agency gravity

We’re used to the idea of gravity in the world, to the extent that we just take it for granted.

Everything will fall to the ground, unless you take action to ensure otherwise.

You know you need a chair to sit on if you don’t want to be on the floor. You know you need a table between your coffee cup and the floor if you don’t want it to fall and break.

The council installs a softer surface in the playground for when gravity exerts its natural force on children.

We’ve accepted that gravity is a thing, and so humanity has used ingenuity and skill to design and build ways to handle it.

Taking these constant actions to handle the force of gravity in our daily lives is just normal.

But we seem to get surprised that we keep having to take action in our agencies to avoid bad things happening that are just effects of natural forces.

Agencies have their own kind of ‘force of gravity’.

It’s simply a fact of life that the natural force of agency gravity will pull…
