Improve your videocalls

In the great early days of advertising agencies in the 1960s, as seen in the TV series Mad Man, you suit was a crucial part of how the world saw you.

When you appeared in meetings or pitches, a well-tailored suit would show people you were successful, stylish, professional and worth listening to.

These days nobody really cares what you wear.

But they do care how you appear. They still judge you for success, style, professionalism and whether you’re going to be worth listening to.

The modern equivalent, I believe, is your the way you host and handle the meeting itself.

In person, that’s whether you can pitch up in a meeting room and instantly have everything you need up and running. If you’re pratting about trying to connect with the big screen for 10 mins, you lose points.

But so many of our meetings now are on videocalls.

So the main way that clients and others will perceive you is via these conferencing platforms. It’s also a key part of how your staff will perceive you as the leader.

Therefore, I advise founders, it’s worth investing time, effort and money in having a really good videocall setup and practicing with it.

Make it part of how you, and your agency, stand out from others.

It’s the modern equivalent of having a really good tailor.
